USC enter PAC-12 Tournament
The industry of college sports in social media is very fast pace and unedited. This is meaning that many things that happen are spontaneous and not well thought out because the players in this industry are young and have a large platform and sometimes don’t know how to use it in the long term but in the short term and to gain a lot of attention. For example, college player Chimezie Metu wore the shirt with #freedmelt in honor of his friend who had bribery scandals. Most older players will hold press conferences to talk about such a sensitive issue or have a written statement while this player simply said what had to be said about his friend and how he was innocent. Metu then took some frustration out on the court which was shown by him punching a player in the groin during the Washington game and his dominating performance in the Oregon state game. These two contrasts show how a star can be affected by any situation. It also shows how social media can be used to shed light on a situation but also how it can affect players not only off the court but also on the court. This article is very useful because it shows the impact of social media to those who are popular on it. They are put in the spotlight and are often scrutinized for what goes on in their everyday lives which normal people would not endure. This article has shed light to how hard those in the spotlights lives are and how normal people do not understand how when someone's personal business is put out there it can affect someone greatly.
