Los Angeles Sports and Social Media
The industry which we are researching is the impact of social media in the Los Angeles county area when it comes to sports. Social media is a major contributor to the sports industry because it is the best way for teams to connect with their fans. The reason for this is that those who are fans of sports come from every walk of life. Whether they are billionaires or they are living in poverty they typically watch some kind of sport. So, social media is a great tool to reach all of these people because it is free to set up an account so people. That means people from all walks of life can afford to use social media and often times do. The article which I chose was “Blake Griffin Trade Gets Social Media Talking, And He Even Gets In A Classic Comment” . This article illustrates the reaction of social media when the trade between the Detroit Pistons and the Los Angeles Clippers was executed. The people of Los Angeles where not pleased with the trade that happened and blamed the leaving of Blake Griffin on Kendall Jenner and called the trade part of the infamous “Kardashian Curse”. The fans of the Clippers were not afraid to show their distaste of the events by posting how cold it will be in Detroit compared to Los Angeles trying to convince Blake Griffin that he is missing out on a great city and they also were not afraid to show how the team had messed up by getting rid of one of their marquee players. This article piqued my interest because it is interesting to see how people are so quick to react to an event for their team and how open they are to sharing their opinions on social media. This article is critical to the sports industry in Los Angeles because it can impact how a team will think because they know that their actions whether they be good or bad will be under the spotlight and the scrutiny of their dedicated fans.
